While there are many excellent physicians in the armed forces, we were not always privileged to be treated by them. It may be different now, but it was really hit or miss back then. When we were stationed in Taiwan, my sister became ill and was misdiagnosed which nearly turned out bad had my dad not been a medical professional and caught it in time. The VA is another example of how government-run healthcare can be a crapshoot. We’ve all heard the horror stories, but my dad had a good experience at the clinic where he received treatment. But I’m an adult now and have received my healthcare from the private sector for many years and there’s no comparison. Given the choice, most any other military dependent would likely agree that care in the private sector is of better quality.
